Making the decision to euthanize a beloved pet is one of the most difficult choices a family can face. When the time comes, allowing your pet to remain at home—surrounded by familiar sights, scents and the people they love—can provide a peaceful and deeply personal goodbye.
Dr. Greenberg provides compassionate, unhurried in-home euthanasia for dogs and cats in select areas of western Suffolk County and nearby Nassau County. Each appointment is personally provided by Dr. Greenberg and thoughtfully planned around your pet’s comfort.
When Is It Time?
Many families worry about making the decision too soon or waiting too long. Changes in comfort, breathing, appetite, mobility, rest and the ability to enjoy familiar activities can help guide the decision.
If you are uncertain whether it is time, a separate Quality-of-Life Discussion may be scheduled by telephone. Dr. Greenberg can review your concerns and provide honest, compassionate guidance without obligating you to schedule euthanasia.
Care Provided by Dr. Greenberg
Dawn Greenberg, DVM, CVA, CCRT, is a Cornell-trained, Fear Free certified veterinarian with 20 years of experience and advanced training in end-of-life care and peaceful euthanasia. Her background in veterinary acupuncture, integrative medicine, rehabilitation and palliative care gives her a particularly thoughtful understanding of comfort, anxiety and quality of life. Every appointment is personally provided with patience, gentleness and respect.
What to Expect
Step 1: Contact us to schedule an appointment.
Step 2: Reach out to the crematory of your choice to schedule the pickup time. We highly recommend Legacy Pet Crematory for their exceptional standards and compassionate staff.
Step 3: Prepare for the appointment by choosing a comforting location where your pet feels at ease. Gather your loved ones to offer comfort and support.
Step 4: Dr. Greenberg will arrive and greet your beloved pet. You will sign a consent form, and payment will be handled at this time, allowing us to focus entirely on your pet’s comfort and care.
Step 5: The euthanasia process involves three carefully administered medications:

First Injection: Calming and relaxing medication to help your pet enter a state of deep relaxation.

Second Injection: Anesthetic medication to induce unconsciousness, ensuring your pet feels no pain.

Final Injection: Euthanasia solution to gently and peacefully help your pet pass away.
Pricing
In-Home Euthanasia: $600 + Travel Fee
Travel fees are based on location and will be confirmed before scheduling.
Aftercare and cremation services are not included and are arranged separately with the crematory of your choice.
Additional fees may apply based on your pet’s size, same-day requests, after-hours appointments, weekends, holidays, travel distance, or other circumstances requiring additional planning. Your complete fee will be confirmed before scheduling.
Cancellation Policy
When an in-home euthanasia appointment is scheduled, that time is reserved exclusively for your family and may prevent us from helping another pet in need. We understand that end-of-life circumstances can change unexpectedly. If you need to cancel or postpone your appointment, please contact us as soon as possible.

6-24 hours before: $200

2-6 hours before: $350

Less than 2 hours before, or after Dr. Greenberg has begun traveling: Full $600 professional fee
If your pet passes away naturally before the appointment, please contact us immediately. The circumstances and amount of notice provided will be taken into consideration.
Scheduling and Availability

Please contact us before your pet reaches a crisis whenever possible. Same-day and last-minute appointments cannot always be accommodated.

Appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Availability depends on your location and the timing of previously scheduled appointments.

Dr. Greenberg is a sole practitioner and cannot reserve multiple appointment times for one family. If your pet is suffering and Dr. Greenberg is unavailable, please proceed to the nearest veterinary emergency hospital.
